Drone squadron starts patrolling Arctic

An Eastern Military District drone squadron has started patrolling the Arctic, Alexander Gordeyev, chief of the military district's press service, told RIA Novosti.

"Early this month, a new drone squadron started patrolling the district's Arctic zone of responsibility. The unit was established near Anadyr in the Chukotka Autonomous Area and uses Orlan-10 and Forpost drones to accomplish various objectives," Gordeyev said.

The drones will monitor military combat training programs in the Russian Arctic, the state of military installations, and fly other patrol missions, Gordeyev noted. They will also collect data to update geographical surveys.
