Russian Armed Forces receive Arctic helicopter

A Mil Mi-8AMTSH-VA Arctic helicopter was presented to Russian Defense Ministry experts during an official event at the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant, RIA Novosti reports.

The helicopter, which is an upgraded version of the Mi-8AMTSH-V, can operate in northern regions at temperatures of under minus 40 degrees Celsius. The heated cockpit, improved thermal insulation, insulated shutters, built-in engine and transmission heaters, Teflon hydraulic oil and fuel hoses allow it to be operated in subzero temperatures. The helicopter also boasts equipment with which to navigate in bad weather, without satellite navigation and during poor radio communications. Its drop tanks provide an enhanced range of over 1,300 kilometers.

The helicopter delivery contract was signed in February 2015.
