Russia deploys new Arctic air-defense regiment

A new S-300 AA missile regiment has been placed on combat duty in the Arctic, Vadim Serga, head of the Russian Northern Fleet's press service, told RIA Novosti.

"The Northern Fleet has placed a surface-to-air missile regiment of the Kola air-defense formation on combat duty. The full-strength regiment is tasked with defending the Russian Federation's air space and is permanently deployed on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago. It is equipped with upgraded S-300 SAMs that can effectively destroy enemy air targets within a radius of several hundred kilometers," Serga noted.

All military and special-purpose equipment was delivered to the Novaya Zemlya archipelago throughout 2015.
