Russia to start designing light multi-purpose planes for the Arctic in 2016 - Rogozin

In 2016, plans call for initiating the design phase for light multi-purpose planes to be used in the Arctic, TASS quoted Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin's statement during the Government Hour at a Federation Council meeting.

"In 2016 we will begin designing a new family of light multi-purpose aircraft and start deliveries in 2020," Mr Rogozin said.

He added that plans call for providing the Arctic with about 135 light planes with a passenger capacity of up to 19 people per plane before 2030. "The existing fleet of An-2 planes can be temporarily used after engine replacement. But this will not solve the problem," Dmitry Rogozin concluded.
