Russian Government to draft special Arctic quality standards

Members of the State Commission for Arctic Development have decided to draft special Arctic quality standards, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said  in Novosibirsk on Thursday, Interfax reports.

"At a recent State Commission for Arctic Development meeting we reached an agreement to start working on special Arctic quality standards. It goes without saying that any equipment that withstands testing in the Arctic can operate anywhere else," Rogozin told journalists June 9 at the Technoprom-2016 forum.

All technologies, from clothing to complex mechanical devices, will be tested in the Arctic, Rogozin noted. Russia currently develops and tests membrane technologies, a vital clothing element, for military units only, he added. "So far, we are only doing this for the military, but we also need to launch civilian production, including footwear, water and heaters, construction and other materials for transport systems, aircraft, various all-terrain vehicles and for traveling along tussocks and hummocks because there are no highways in the Arctic,"  Rogozin said.
