Admiralty shipyard to manufacture two ice-class patrol ships for the Russian Navy within three years

The Admiralty Shipyard will manufacture two Project 23550 ice-class patrol ships for the Russian Navy, Director of the Defense Ministry Department for the Fulfilment of State Defense Order, Andrei Vernigora said on June 10, according to Interfax.

"We will build a range of icebreaker patrol ships at this shipyard for use in the Arctic. The contract has been signed and the first ship will be released in 2018," Vernigora said.

The shipyard's Director Alexander Buzakov said construction of the ships is set to begin this year. They will be ready in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Both ships will be built for the Northern Fleet.

The displacement of the patrol ships will be about 8,500 metric tons, Buzakov added.
