Some 15 military and civilian facilities will be completed this year on Novaya Zemlya for the armed forces units deployed there, Deputy Defense Minister General of the Army Dmitry Bulgakov said as quoted by RIA Novosti.

"We plan to complete 15 facilities this year," Bulgakov said.

He said the construction of a building for the duty staff, a garage, engineering facilities and the drill ground was ongoing. Other facilities under construction are barracks for 100, a canteen and a weapons storage site.

"The development of military infrastructure in the township of Yuzhny on Novaya Zemlya Archipelago is proceeding apace. The construction of technical sites for air defense missile units and aircraft, social infrastructure and the Rogachyovo Airfield is proceeding on schedule," Gen. Bulgakov said.

He added that the Rogachyovo Airfield would be renovated in 2017. The project includes the widening and extension of the landing strip, the construction of taxiway strips, aircraft parking areas, anti-icing sites, and several other buildings and facilities.
