Defense Ministry to build over 100 military infrastructure facilities in the Arctic in 2017

This year, the Russian Defense Ministry will build over 100 military infrastructure facilities in the Arctic, RIA Novosti reported, citing the ministry's Information and Mass Communication Department.

"Over 100 major construction projects in the Russian Arctic will be completed by the end of 2017," the statement reads.

These military facilities are located at the Defense Ministry's bases on Franz Joseph Land, Novaya Zemlya, Sredny Island, Cape Schmidt, Wrangel Island and Kotelny Island.

Low-temperature resistant construction materials and equipment to build Arctic bases are delivered from the mainland. Currently, over 200 vehicles and almost 1,000 builders are involved in the construction.
