Arctic military equipment to be shown during May 9 parade

The Russian Defense Ministry will for the first time parade its Arctic vehicles and armor during the May 9 Victory Day celebrations on Red Square, Colonel General Oleg Salyukov, Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces, told RIA Novosti.

"For the first time, the parade will feature Arctic vehicles clearly distinguished by their northern paint scheme. The public will see air defense systems, such as the Tor M2DT missile system, the Pantsir S1 anti-aircraft artillery system, and support vehicles designed for Arctic deployment," Salyukov said during the first training session for parade units.

He said these weapons systems can defend Russia in the adverse conditions of the Arctic, in the absence of normal roads and far from support bases.

"In addition, this year we are expecting to showcase Arctic modifications of well-known tanks, such as, perhaps, the T-72B3M," Salyukov said.
