Emergencies Ministry reports on plans to create 10 Arctic rescue centers

Russia's Emergencies Ministry is establishing 10 Arctic rescue centers, reported Director of the Ministry's International Cooperation Department Alexander Romanov.

"To ensure economic security and protect the population in the Arctic — as a significant mass of ocean water floods the shore — 10 Arctic rescue centers as well as space data acquisition stations are being established," Romanov told a meeting of representatives of the Emergencies Ministry and embassies.

According to Romanov, the move is necessary to provide security for the Northern Sea Route.
