Arctic regions to have a uniform standard for tourist infrastructure development

The Federal Agency for Tourism (Rostourism) is planning to produce a uniform standard for the development of tourist infrastructure in the Russian Arctic regions in the near future.

While speaking at the Accessible Arctic forum in St. Petersburg, Head of Rostourism Zarina Doguzova said that the document would specify infrastructure  to be built in different places: “How many chemical toilets are needed and where, which places need hotels, where modular and temporary structures will suffice, and so on.”

According to Doguzova, formulating a national Arctic tourism standard in Russia is aimed at ensuring the sustainable development of the Arctic regions, protecting vulnerable Arctic ecosystems, preserving the lifestyle and culture of local peoples, and improving their social and economic living conditions.
