Senator: The United States and Russia have potential for cooperation in the Arctic

The United States and Russia have good potential for cooperation in developing the Arctic and should use it, RIA Novosti reports US Senate Energy Committee Chairperson Lisa Murkowski as saying.

"I believe that Russia can and should be our partner [in the Arctic]. I've been critical of Russia because it has not been as open as our other partners in this region in sharing, for instance, Arctic research and in working with the other Arctic nations to cooperate in other areas. But I do believe that we have the potential to do so," Murkowski told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the IHS CERAWeek in Houston, Texas.

"We have more opportunity in the Arctic than any other area to find a relationship with Russia, as we do with space, for example," she said.
