State Commission for Arctic Development may meet in Spitsbergen

There are plans to hold a meeting of the State Commission for Arctic Development in Spitsbergen (Svalbard) Archipelago in the spring of 2021.

“We recently discussed holding a meeting of the security commission council and a proposal emerged to hold the next meeting of the Arctic commission in Spitsbergen Archipelago. I ask you to begin this work,” Deputy Prime Minister Yury Trutnev said at a meeting of the State Commission for Arctic Development.

He suggested that the Foreign Ministry should first contact the foreign partners and then the State Commission will continue its work in the archipelago.
