Shoigu: Russia has the most sophisticated Arctic military infrastructure

Russia has the most advanced and unique Arctic military infrastructure, Russian Defense Minister Army General Sergei Shoigu said Monday, December 24, at a meeting of the Defense Ministry's Public Council.

"We continue to complete our work on the Arctic islands stage by stage, upgrading airfields and building the most advanced infrastructure. I can safely say that not a single country has the same modern infrastructure as Russia does," Shoigu noted.

Today, we are establishing a military infrastructure in the Arctic region's Franz Josef Land, Alexandra Land, Kotelny Island, Sredny Island, Wrangel Island, Cape Schmidt as well as  the New Siberian Islands, he added.

Work is underway to build a military infrastructure on the Kuril Islands, Shoigu pointed out.

"Service personnel are moving into brand-new buildings and structures on the Kuril archipelago on New Year's Eve," Shoigu added.
