The 21st annual Arctic Science Summit Week will take place in Arkhangelsk on May 22-28, 2019. The event will focus on climate change and life-sustaining activity for the Arctic population. The conference is expected to bring together up to 400 Russian and foreign scientists.

The conference was established by the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC). Russia is hosting the event for the second time.

The main venues of the conference are the Northern (Arctic) Federal University and the Northern State Medical University. According to the organizers, the conference will comprise dozens of meetings and round tables; participants will hear hundreds of reports and presentations. Scientific discussions will cover 22 topical issues that are closely related to the conference agenda.

Arctic Science Summit Week schedule:

May 22-23: Meetings between the IASC and its partners

May 24-25: Science days; lectures, sessions and poster presentations

May 26: Partner meetings, sessions, poster presentations

May 27: Business Day (presentations, sessions, IASC medal award ceremony)

May 28: The Day of Indigenous Peoples and Science Day (sessions and poster presentations)

Among the key speakers will be members of the Russian Academy of Sciences representing various areas of knowledge, prominent foreign researchers from major scientific centers of the Arctic and non-Arctic states, top managers of Russia's largest companies that ensure industrial and infrastructure development of the macro-region (Gazprom, Alrosa, Atomflot, United Shipbuilding Corporation), and representatives of the Arctic territories.

During the summit, the IASC award ceremony will take place. The IASC medal, one of the most prestigious awards for Arctic research, is presented by the IASC President and is followed by the laureate's lecture.
