Russia built over 710,000 square meters of Arctic military facilities in six years

Russian service personnel have built Arctic infrastructure facilities covering over 710,000 square meters in six years, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Monday.

"In the past six years, we have built 475 facilities with a total area of over 710,000 square meters on the Kotelny, Alexandra Land and Wrangel islands and on Cape Schmidt," Shoigu told participants in an extended meeting of the State Duma Committee on Defense.

The facilities accommodate service personnel and equipment, he noted.
