Yakutia minister for Arctic Development resigns

Alexander Savvinov has resigned as Yakut Minister for Arctic Development and Northern Peoples' Affairs, said Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Aisen Nikolayev on his Twitter page.

The Ministry for Arctic Development and Northern Peoples' Affairs of Yakutia was established on December 30, 2018, following a reorganization of the state committee on Arctic affairs. On that day, Nikolayev appointed Savvinov as the head of the newly established agency. Savvinov had previously led the Yakut City Duma and stood in the election for the mayor of Yakutsk in September.

On Tuesday, an executive order was issued relieving the minister of his duties.

"Alexander Savvinov resigned as Minister for Arctic Development and Northern Peoples' Affairs of Yakutia," the head of the region noted.

A day earlier, at a meeting with editors of regional media, Nikolayev mentioned that Savvinov had health problems.
