Chukotka to be the first region in the Russian population census

Residents of Chukotka will be the first to take part in the 2020 Russian population census, the region's website reports. The census in the Chukotka Autonomous Area will begin in April next year. The census will be taken in the rest of Russia's regions simultaneously from October 1 to October 31, 2020.

On June 10, members of the commission for the preparation and holding of the 2020 Russian population census in Chukotka discussed the priority preparatory activities for the census in the area. A list of remote and hard-to-reach territories in Chukotka has been agreed on, which includes most of the settlements in the region, except the village of Ugolnyye Kopi and the city district of Anadyr.

The commission proposed moving the dates to April for remote and hard-to-reach territories to take advantage of the better weather. The maximum number of permanent residents and remote settlements will be easier to access in the spring.
