Some 2,800 waste collection points to be upgraded in Murmansk Region

The Murmansk Region Ministry of Energy and Utilities has drafted a three-year program for upgrading container waste collection points. About 2,800 sites with almost 6,000 garbage containers will be established in the region under the program.

"Our estimates show that the program will require about 800 million rubles over three years. We sent a request to this end to the relevant federal ministry," Minister of Energy and Utilities Vladimir Gnoyevsky told acting Governor Andrei Chibis on Monday.

Also, the acting governor said during the meeting that old tires would be taken from the container sites to a landfill in Mezhdurechye. Old tires do not fall under the category of solid household waste.

"Recycling tires should be the next step as they can be an important raw material for road construction," Andrei Chibis said.

The regional government website reports that the local ministry of nature is currently in talks with interested companies that are capable of recycling old tires.
