Far East Development Ministry to prepare a plan to develop Arctic tourism by year end
The Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic intends to prepare a plan for developing the tourist infrastructure in the Arctic zone within three months and to calculate the required amount of financing, Deputy Minister Alexander Krutikov told journalists.
"In the context of the forthcoming strategy for the development of the Arctic region until 2035 and the strategy of tourism development approved by the Russian Government in September, we are jointly preparing a separate set of measures to promote tourism in the Arctic region. I can say right now that it will not be a piece of red tape; we will use a different approach by developing a plan for building infrastructure at key tourist attractions in all nine Arctic regions. The plan will be completed and all the required investment will be calculated within three months," Krutikov said.
He pointed out that this work is being done together with the Federal Agency for Tourism. It is intended to submit the tourism development plan at a meeting of the State Committee for Arctic Development early next year.
