A festival of the indigenous peoples of the North to be held on Sakhalin

The XIII Festival of Indigenous Small-Numbered Peoples of the North will take place in the Nogliki District, Sakhalin Region, on March 21-22, 2020.

The participants will engage in creative and culinary contests and also take part in the Nordic multi-sport event. Teams will arrive from Okha, Smirnykh, Tymovskoye, Aleksandrovsk-Sakhalinsky and Poronaisk districts and from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to take part in a gala concert and a decorative and applied art fair.

The art festival will involve ethnic companies, soloists, masters of decorative and applied art, artists, and representatives of ethnic cultural centers, clans, and communities.

The jury will be particularly demanding towards participants in the culinary contest, where the esthetic quality of the table decor, product mix, taste, color, smell and originality of dishes will all count.

The Nordic multi-sport event will include sledge jump and triple ethnic jump competitions, cross-country races with a stick, ax throwing, lasso throwing, archery, tug-of-war, and ethnic wrestling.

Winners will be awarded medals, diplomas and gift certificates. It is expected that the festival will be attended by 140 representatives of the indigenous peoples of the North.

The opening ceremony will be held at the district cultural center and the competitions will take place at venues located on the Tym and Noglinka rivers.
