Kobylkin: Natural Resources Ministry will focus on developing Russia’s Arctic regions

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will pay more attention to the development of Russia's Arctic regions, Minister Dmitry Kobylkin said in an interview with the TASS news agency.

Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area Governor Kobylkin was appointed Minister of Natural Resources and Environment on May 18.

"I hope we will be able to convince the federal authorities to pay more attention to our northern territories, which occupy nearly a third of Russia's entire territory," he said.

Kobylkin promised that he would "keep reminding everyone that up to 25 percent of the world's proven natural resource reserves are located in Russia's Arctic regions."

"This reserve must not be left untapped. It must be used to the benefit of our economic development," he said.
