Biden administration delays publication of new environmental review of oil drilling

The Joe Biden administration has postponed the publication of a new environmental review on oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by several months.

The document was supposed to be released by the end of November, but given that oil development has stalled in the refuge, the publication will be released after the new inspection process.

The Arctic Refuge oil drilling program has been a controversial issue on the Trump administration’s energy agenda after the US Congress voted to open this region to oil production as part of a 2017 tax reform package.

Environmental organizations and representatives of the indigenous peoples of America who spoke against oil drilling in the area, have filed lawsuits to challenge the administrative process of oil lease permits and to initiate environmental reviews.
