The Federal Agency for Tourism plans to make oil and gas extraction sites in the Arctic tourist destinations, the Tass news agency reported citing Head of the Federal Agency for Tourism Oleg Safonov. Safonov made this statement on the sidelines of a meeting of the State Commission for Arctic Development.

"Many of the Arctic oil and gas facilities are unique, for example the Prirazlomnaya platform. This is an incredibly complicated and unique achievement of engineering, even more complex than space technologies. It will be extremely interesting to visit the platform," Safonov said.

According to the Head of the Federal Agency for Tourism, oil and gas extraction sites constitute the most prospective area in terms of Arctic tourism. "It is very important to understand the conditions in which oil workers are operating in our country, how oil is extracted, how it is found, and why the price is what it is," he said.
