Arctic exploration museum to be created on Franz Josef Land

The islands Hooker, Rudolf, Heiss and Alexandra Land, which are part of the Franz Josef Land archipelago, will host expositions of the Museum of Arctic Exploration of the Soviet Period, Arctic-info reported, citing planet-today.ru.

The museum concept has been developed with the participation of international experts, Yevgeny Yermolov, a researcher at the Russian Arctic National Park said. "It includes open-air exposition sites on four islands of the archipelago — Hooker, Alexandra Land, Rudolf and Heiss — where there is historical evidence of the unparalleled exploration of high latitudes by man," Yermolov said.

It will take several years to create the museum, according to the scientist. "We are constrained by climate, as we can only work in the Arctic from July to September. Everything here is done by the staff of the National Park," Yermolov said.
