Arctic Research Center to hold medical expedition

On March 8-17, experts from the Arctic Research Center will hold a medical expedition to the village of Antipayuta, Tazovsky District. This has been reported by the official website of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area.

The expedition will take place as part of research work on the health of representatives of indigenous peoples of the North who follow their own traditional lifestyle. Experts will continue working on a preventive study of the Tazovsky District that began in 2012. Since then, they have collected data about the health condition of people in various groups. They've studied traditional foods and their impact on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, conducted chemical studies of the distribution of eco-toxicants in the environment and foods, and also analyzed medical and social problems of people residing in the Tazovsky District. Hundreds of local people have undergone medical examinations and received help from knowledgeable doctors.

This year, experts will also study the health of the residents of Antipayuta, including their traditional foods, hereditary factors, and also women's health. Employees of the medical research sector will hold cardiovascular system monitoring and ultrasound scans. Consultations with a psychologist will also be available. Those who take part in the center's research will then receive recommendations on how to lead a healthy lifestyle, how to quit smoking using local herbs and, if necessary, recommendations on whether further medical examinations are needed and treatment is necessary.
