Dmitry Rogozin: The first floating nuclear power plant to be launched in Russia in 2016

The Baltic Shipyard plans to launch Russia's first floating nuclear power plant, the Akademik Lomonosov in 2016, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin told Russia-24 TV network.

"In twelve months we will commission the first floating nuclear power plant with a capacity of 60 MWe. It is like a floating battery that can approach the Arctic or any other shore and produce hot water and electricity. It is a nuclear power plant, but not a ground one," Mr. Rogozin said.

Dmitry Rogozin noted that China has shown interest in Russia's nuclear power developments. "Beijing is very keen to boost cooperation in nuclear energy and floating nuclear power plants, the areas we have unique projects in," the Deputy Prime Minister added. He also said that Russia is ready to build a series of such plants for China. Some of the plant's components may be produced by Chinese specialists.
