Il-114 plane with special landing gear will be adapted for Arctic conditions

The Il-114 short-haul plane with special landing gear will be adapted for Arctic conditions, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said  at a meeting at the Sokol aircraft plant on Tuesday, TASS reported.

"The Il-114 will be used on routes between Russian cities and regional centers. It will be used both with standard and special landing gear in the Arctic," the deputy prime minister said.

Russian aviation needs an airliner like the Il-114, he said.

"Our Antonov [An] planes — primarily the An-24, An-26 and others — are beyond their service life. We badly need this kind of plane," he said, adding that manufacturing this plane is "a strategic objective and in the present economic situation is, essentially, a response to [Western] sanctions."

According to United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), production could be organized in Nizhny Novgorod.

Previously, the IL-114 was manufactured in Tashkent, but Russian aircraft-makers have experience in transferring and modernizing aircraft production on Russian soil, Dmitry Rogozin said, citing the example of the Il-476 cargo plane, two thirds of which was modernized while the documentation was digitized.
