Arkhangelsk Region to host Arctic maritime operations control center

The Arkhangelsk Region is planned as a location for an Arctic maritime operations control center, TASS reports, citing the local government. The project is being implemented by Oboronlogistika, a defense ministry company.

"Next week, the company will register its branch in the Arkhangelsk Region, which will be later transformed into an Arctic maritime operations control center," a government report says.

The center will dramatically bolster transport support for various projects in the Arctic, Arkhangelsk Governor Igor Orlov said at a meeting with company heads.

Oboronlogistika is planning to launch yet another project in the area, a production and logistical complex to be built in the Arkhangelsk port, Mr. Orlov said.

A cooperation agreement between the Arkhangelsk Region's government and Oboronlogistika was signed at the 20th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June 2016. Under the document, the company will provide logistic support for freight delivery in the Arctic.

Oboronlogistika has the status of a shipping company and owns seagoing ships operating at the Kerch crossing and Baltic lines. It is also the exclusive freighter of Military Transport Aviation aircraft to airlift products created as part of the state defense order and other heavy-duty commercial cargoes.
