Spetsstroy will build nine airfields before 2018, Oleg Sirazetdinov, the head of Main Engineering Directorate No. 2 at Spetsstroy of Russia, told the TASS news agency.

"As of today, we are operating within existing contracts on the construction of three airfields. However, we have to commission six more airports totaling nine altogether by 2018," Mr. Sirazetdinov said, adding that in some cases they upgrade existing airfields whereas in other cases new airfields are built to ensure long-range and transport aviation flights. 

"The runway is being expanded on Kotelny Island. Runway repair is also underway on Cape Shmidt and a new airfield is being built in Rogachyovo. We are trying to efficiently use the allocated funds," Mr. Sirazetdinov said.
