Archangelsk to host international conference, Natural Resources and the Comprehensive Development of the Arctic Coast

An international scientific conference, Natural Resources and the Comprehensive Development of the Arctic Coast, will take place in Arkhangelsk on September 29 — October 1.

The conference will address the following issues:

  • the Northern Sea Route and the development of the Arctic marine and coastal areas;
  • technologies and methods of studying, preserving and developing the natural resources of the Arctic marine and coastal areas;
  • ethnic, social and socio-cultural processes and the situation of the indigenous population in Arctic coastal areas;
  • integrated management of coastal areas as a tool for the balanced socio-economic development of the Arctic territories.

The event will feature the traditional scientific workshop, Circumpolar Studies, for Russian and foreign undergraduate students, graduate students and young (up to age 35, inclusive) scientists, including lectures by experts on Arctic and northern studies, the sharing of knowledge about scientific and technological development trends and vocational guidance.

The conference organizers are the Federal Agency of Scientific Organizations of Russia, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the government of the Arkhangelsk Region, the Urals branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Arkhangelsk Scientific Center of the Urals branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the International Arctic Scientific Committee.

Participation in the conference is organized through registration on the website or by e-mailing a registration form to the Organizing Committee in Russian and English. Applications are accepted until April 30.

Conference proceedings will be published as a collection of articles.
