St. Petersburg to host international conference ‘The Arctic: History and Modernity’

On April 20-21, 2016, the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University will host an international conference, The Arctic: History and Modernity.

Conference participants plan to discuss the following issues:

  • the history of Arctic exploration;
  • contemporary geopolitical aspects of Arctic exploration;
  • military security and strategic balance in the Arctic;
  • environmental and industrial safety in the Arctic;
  • international cooperation in the Arctic;
  • the historical and cultural legacy of the Arctic;
  • prospects of tourism in the Arctic;
  • indigenous peoples of the Arctic and their sustainable development.

Graduate students and young researchers are invited to attend. The conference will have a designated youth section.

As a follow-up, conference materials will be published and posted on the National E-Library website (http://elibrary.ru), which means they will also be included in the Russian Science Index, a science reference database.
