Entrepreneurs propose to work out the Arctic tourism development strategy

The Northern Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Union has prepared proposals for developing Arctic tourism that are expected to be presented at a meeting of the Russian State Council  devoted to the support and development of tourism in the summer of 2015, the Arctic-Info Agency reports.

According to the experts, to promote tourism in the Russian Arctic, it is necessary to develop and implement a Strategy for developing Arctic tourism through 2030 and make Arctic tourism a separate tourist product for both inbound and domestic tourism.

The 2030 Arctic Tourism Strategy will aim to create a modern and competitive tourist route in the Arctic zone, including nature reserves and specially protected natural areas.

The strategy should provide for the creation and development of ethnic settlements, the development of handicrafts by the indigenous peoples of Russia's North and the Far East and the expansion of a range of souvenirs. In addition, it is necessary to simplify the coordination of routes for ski and extreme tourism and to implement the E-Arctic single tourism communication system.

The union submitted its initiatives to the Federal Agency for Tourism and the INNOVATION RUSSIA Association.
