Russian Helicopters may deliver first Arctic copters by year-end

Russian Helicopters plans to deliver the first Arctic helicopters to the Russian Armed Forces by the end of 2015, said Andrei Shipitov, the company's deputy director general.

Russian Helicopters, which is part of the Rostec corporation, is working on Mi-8AMTSh-VA helicopters designed for the Arctic forces. These helicopters have two additional external fuel tanks and two more internal fuel tanks, which allow it to cover a distance of 1,500 km without refueling.

"We plan to complete state trial flights before the end of 2015 and begin delivering the first helicopters this year," Shipitov said.
