Arctic navigation database to be launched in 2017

The Arctic Council's Working Group on the Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment (PAME) met in Stockholm on February 1-3, 2016, to discuss the project to set up a shipping database for the Arctic (based on data from the automatic identification system). The database is to come online in 2017, said the press service of the Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport (Rosmorrechflot)'s maritime rescue service.

The agreement on data sharing will be drafted by the inter-sessional working group by September 2016 and will later be considered by a PAME session and presented for signing at an Arctic Council session.

Delegates from all member countries of the Arctic Council took part in the PAME session along with representatives of other working groups of the council and non-governmental organizations.
