Yakutsk to host 4th International Northern Sustainable Development Forum

On September 27-30, Yakutsk will be the venue for the 4th International Northern Sustainable Development Forum. Representatives of 10 countries, primarily those in the Asia Pacific region, are ready to attend the forum.

Earlier, Head of Yakutia Aisen Nikolayev noted that the Northern Forum’s activities would become more dynamic, and that they aimed to improve the quality of life of people in the North and the Arctic.

Using the best international practices and economic management models to create favorable living conditions in Arctic regions is a current priority, Nikolayev added.

This year, the forum’s delegates will focus on efforts to ensure sustainable energy supplies for the North and the Arctic, including the use of renewable energy sources. All the main events will take place under the theme Energy of the Arctic: New Challenges – New Solutions and Technologies.

The upcoming forum’s program includes over 30 events, such as a plenary session and other special events concerning the development of the energy sector. The program also offers conferences, lectures and discussions on expanded partnership for the purpose of sustainable North and Arctic development, on the role of regions in the international agenda and on the prosperity of Arctic residents. The Northern Youth Forum is also scheduled to be held.

Representatives of federal, regional and national government agencies, international, non-profit and public organizations, diplomatic missions and trade delegations of foreign states, trans-national and state corporations, research and educational institutions, as well as leading experts on foreign, economic and environmental affairs, are expected to take part.

The forum is organized by the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the Northern Forum international organization of Northern regions and Northeastern Federal University.
