Sabetta new railway project is of a high degree of development

The project of the 170-kilometer Bovanenkovo-Sabetta railway's construction in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area is of a high degree of development, the Area's Acting Governor Dmitry Artyukhov says. The railway will link the Northern and Sverdlovsk railways with the Arctic zone's Sabetta seaport and the Arctic Ocean.

On August 21, Artyukhov met with President of Russia Vladimir Putin and noted that regional authorities wanted to sign a concession agreement on building the railway to Sabetta. Productive dialogue was underway with Gazprom and Russian Railways, he added.

"The project is now of a high degree of development. We discussed it the other day in Sabetta, at a meeting chaired by the relevant Deputy Prime Minister in the presence of all key players, including Russian Railways CEO Oleg Belozyorov. And we have also inspected the port where the railway terminus will be located. It is crucial for long-term Arctic development," Artykhov said.

The new railway will become part of the Northern Latitudinal Route 2 project. The project will commence after the Northern Latitudinal Route 2 is completed.
