The meeting of the Russian-Finnish Commission on Maritime Shipping held in Helsinki covered aspects of bilateral cooperation in sea shipping in the Arctic region, Päivi Antikainen, Director of Unit at the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications, told RIA Novosti on Monday.

"We had a very constructive meeting and exchanged views on cooperation in maritime shipping in the Arctic as well as on marine conservation in the Baltic Sea," she said.

The meeting participants also considered the joint project on harmonizing the implementation of the Polar Code, reducing NOx emissions from ships in the Baltic Sea, and regulating the sulfur content in ship fuel.

The meeting was co-chaired by Yury Kostin, Director of the Russian Transport Ministry's Department of State Policy for Sea and Inland Water Transport. The Russian delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Transport, organizations subordinate to the Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport, the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and the Russian Chamber of Shipping. Finland was represented by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, as well as the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency.

The next meeting of the Russian-Finnish Commission on Maritime Shipping will be held in the Russian Federation in 2020.
