Yakutia requests money to extinguish fires

Head of the republic Aisen Nikolayev asked Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to allocate 390.9 million rubles from the government's Reserve Fund for firefighting efforts in the region, the fund's press service reports. 

"According to reports by the Aerial Forest Protection Service, there are currently 116 wild fires raging in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) spreading across approximately 916,548.6 hectares. Of this number, 15 fires are being fought in the districts of Aldansky, Verkhoyansky, Megino-Kangalassky, Neryungrinsky, Nyurbinsky, Olekminsky, Suntarsky and Ust-Aldansky as well as in the city of Yakutsk over an estimated 1,267.6 hectares," the press service reports.

Yesterday, the number of wild fires in Yakutia went down by 15 hot spots, and another four wild fires were localized. The Emergencies Ministry has established an aviation group in the region. Two Emergencies Ministry Be-200 aircraft from the Khabarovsk Air Rescue center are based in the cities of Mirny and Yakutsk. The center's two Mi-8 helicopters with water buckets are deployed in Yakutsk and the village of Suntar, the press service reports.
