Senator Anna Otke: Arctic enterprises should be responsible for the region’s social development

Major enterprises in the Arctic should be responsible for social development in the areas where they operate, Anna Otke, member of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy, has told the Rossiya Segodnya news conference on the development of the Russian Arctic and its main priorities.

"Of course, you cannot attract people there without building up businesses and promoting investment, above all among the users of mineral resources. What has to be taken into account in the strategy for the development of the Arctic up to 2035 is the creation of special conditions for the major corporate taxpayers, including for the Arctic regions," said Otke, answering a question on the urgent measures that can be taken to stop the outflow of people from the Arctic.

She added that enterprises must bear social responsibility for the development of the areas where they were operating.

"On the one hand there should be the tax benefits that are attractive to such enterprises, but they should also be socially responsible for the development of the territories where they are working," said the Senator.
