Indigenous communities in the Nenets Autonomous Area to receive local development grants

The Nenets Autonomous Area (NAO) has announced an annual call for applications to receive local budget grants for developing family (clan) indigenous community activities. The information is published on the NAO regional authorities' site. The NAO Regional Policy Department, which is organizing the selection process, will take applications from communities from April 10 to19.

"The maximum grant in 2017 is 300,000 rubles. Previous experience shows that this level of state support is sufficient for achieving the goals set by the kind of projects the family and clan groups usually put forward," the announcement stated.

Grants are accorded on the basis of a competitive selection process through the state program Development and Preservation of Indigenous Peoples of the North in the NAO. Organizations established by indigenous peoples in accordance with the law and working in the NAO are eligible to bid for grants.

The main criteria for applicants include: sufficient number of years of experience; number of jobs; project compatibility with traditional activities; the degree of facility and equipment improvement; and economic feasibility.

The NAO Regional Policy Department said that local budget support would go above all to communities carrying out projects that preserve traditional lifestyles and develop new types of economic activity.
