Northern Forum participants to discuss Arctic infrastructure maintenance issues

In November 2023, Yakutsk is to host the Northern Sustainable Development Forum, where its delegates will focus on ways of maintaining the infrastructure of Arctic cities and communities.

“This year, we suggested holding the 5th Northern Sustainable Development Forum on November 7-10. The participants will prioritize ways of maintaining the infrastructure in Arctic cities, towns and communities,” the forum’s Executive Director Vladimir Vasilyev said at a roundtable discussion on topical issues of the state of the Arctic infrastructure and prospects for ensuring its security.

This year, a working group for promoting Arctic tourism was established within the framework of the Northern Forum. It consists of federal, regional and municipal experts from all over Russia.

“Many people would now like to drive to the Arctic or to visit it with organized tour groups. However, we need to work with them and facilitate their safety,” Vasilyev said. He also added that members of the working group wanted to draft an Arctic tourism development strategy before the year is out and to present it to federal agencies.
