Ancient Sami settlement in Murmansk Region gets cultural heritage status

The Kintshemlukht-1 ancient Sami settlement in the Apatity District of the Murmansk Region has been named a cultural heritage site. Archeologists estimate it is about 2,000 years old.

The state already protects the settlement and also covered it  by a special regime for land use. Everyone who owns and uses land plots on the settlement’s territory will be notified accordingly.

Experts discovered the settlement in 2022. According to members of the Kola archeological expedition, only one more Bronze Age settlement has been studied in Russia to date; it is located in the Murmansk Region’s Kovdor District.
