Nenets Autonomous Area indigenous peoples to hunt without special permits

The indigenous small-numbered peoples in Russia’s Nenets Autonomous Area will be allowed to hunt without obtaining an additional game permit, the regional administration’s press service reported.

Local residents who lead a traditional lifestyle will receive a special entry in their hunting license. To obtain it, a resident must be included in the register of indigenous small-numbered peoples and be living a traditional lifestyle.

According to the 2020 all-Russia population census data, the Nenets Autonomous Area had 6,713 Nenets, or 17.9 percent of local residents.
