In 2016, 509 bln cubic meters of natural gas, 27 mln metric tons of oil and 19 mln metric tons of gas condensate were extracted in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, the region's government website reports. In all 33 companies operated on 90 oil and gas fields in the region.

As of early 2017, hydrocarbon extraction companies are operating under 255 mining and production licenses; 234 of the licenses had been issued for onshore production and 21 for the production on the Kara Sea shelf.
