Murmansk Region governor believes the pandemic opened up new opportunities for attracting tourists to the Arctic

Analytical data show that the Arctic has been greatly underrated as a tourist destination, as Murmansk Region Governor Andrei Chibis reported at the First International Arctic Media Congress in St. Petersburg.

“We need to change the paradigm in our heads that the Arctic is somewhere far away. In fact, it is close and can offer a wonderful experience,” said Chibis in his address to the congress.

He also noted that the pandemic did not only pose a challenge, but also opened up new opportunities for attracting people to the Arctic.

"However, it is not enough to attract tourists for one trip. We should make them fall in love with the place they visit. We should take advantage of the opportunity and develop travel infrastructure at the same time," thinks the politician.
