Russia marks Polar Explorer Day
On March 21, the Russian Association of Polar Explorers held a ceremonial event devoted to Polar Explorer Day. Representatives of state bodies, public organizations and veteran explorers all attended the event.
To mark the holiday, Moscow hosted an extended meeting of the Association's Council, where reports were presented on the work of public commissions dealing with the socioeconomic development of the Russian Arctic, including the environment and science, as well as social projects, the development of spiritual and cultural heritage and other issues.
During the conference, famous state and public figures congratulated the polar explores who had gathered there on their holiday, and head of the association Artur Chilingarov read messages of greetings. The event concluded with performances of artistic groups from the Arctic regions and a cocktail dinner.
