Bear cub saved on Wrangel Island

A bear cub was given aid in the area of the Ushakovskoye central lodge on Wrangel Island on October 28, the website of the Wrangel Island Nature Reserve reports.

During his surveillance tour, Senior State Environmental Inspector Ilya Petukhov spotted a female bear with a cub. A tin can was protruding from the cub's mouth, with which he seemed to have been playing.

"The cub was immediately given aid. Both the mother and the cub were put to sleep and the reserve stuff carefully extracted the foreign object. A few hours later, the bear family, in good health and as happy as ever, embarked on further ice travels," the website says.
