Sergei Ivanov: Russian authorities intend to renovate 18 Arctic airports

A program to renovate 18 Arctic airports will be launched in the coming years, Special Presidential Representative for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport Sergei Ivanov said in an interview with TASS.

"A program has been developed to renovate 18 Arctic airports. <…> Thus, we will gradually restore the entire system of Arctic airports, from Pevek to Murmansk, which will certainly promote the economic development of the Arctic," he said.

Head of the Federal Agency for Air Transport Alexander Neradko told TASS that an assessment of the investment required has not been made. "The cost of reconstruction can be assessed as part of design work. It has not been made yet," he added without giving the timeline for airport reconstruction.
