Russian Security Council: New national security strategy pays special attention to the Arctic

Russia's new national security strategy approved by the President places emphasis on the Arctic, among other foreign policy issues, Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Yevgeny Lukyanov said in a statement.

"Special attention is paid to the Arctic region, which is traditionally associated with Russian national interests," Mr. Lukyanov said.

In general, the national security strategy declares Russia's commitment to an open, rational and pragmatic foreign policy, which prioritizes the principles of international law and mutual respect of peoples, their cultures, traditions and interests.
